a long-standing swrod project started in 2006 (and its still not finished ) the blade is hand forged from a leaf-spring of an old horsewagon. the handle is carved from a piece of moose-antler and the scabbard is wood with leather coating and iron parts...

"surmanisku" is finnish and stands for "killing-blow"

Hyvältä näyttää :) Itte oon tuumaillu kans tuota lehtijousta raaka-aineeksi, tosin kuorma-auton semmosta. Lähtökohta on vaan hiukka hankalan kaareva.. pitäs oikasta jotenkin.

no kiitos :) kuorma-auton jousi on vaan aika järeetä tavaraa, melkein vaatii konevasaran työstämiseen... mutta kyllähän se kuumana suoristuu :)

Impressive! How solid is it, though?

thanks :) it is as solid as it can be, it has been heat-treated with traditional methods to a spring-like state, just like real swords, so you would do fine with this sword on an ancient battlefield

Well done! How did you learn to do this?

mostly by asking A LOT of questions from the local blacksmiths and other ppl who knew about these technigues, and by reading a couple of books from this trade, but it also takes some practise and a lot of trial and error :)

Have to keep that in mind. Trial-and-error is pretty much how I make anything! Thank you!

It looks really nice. Since this is still I WIP, I can just imagine what the finished product will look like. You've done a really nice piece!
